This is the journal for the
theatrical_muse character Arthur Castus, or King Arthur. No copyright infringement is ever intended, and no profit is made from this venture. This version of King Arthur comes from the film King Arthur, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Antoine Fuqua. He is loosely based on a historical figure that supposedly lived during the 5th century in Roman occupied Britain. This man was called Lucius Artorius Castus, and in this version of the story, rules over a newly unified Britain as the Dux Bellorum, or, warlord.
Most of Arthur's background was created by me, his mun, although some information is taken from the film.

Name: Lucius Artorius (Arthur) Castus
Age: 34
Occupation: Cavalry (or Ala) Commander, Camboglanna, Hadrian's Wall, Britain
Personality: Idealistic, noble, loyal, honest, self-depreciating. All to a fault.
Background: Arthur is the son of Uther Castus, a respected and well known Cavalry commander, and Ygraine, a Briton woman. Both of Arthur's parents are dead - at the age of ten, Arthur saw his mother killed in a skirmish between Woads (the local Britons that fight for the possesion of the land) and the local Roman legions. He raced to the burial mound of his father, and tried to pull loose the large sword that rested there. He managed to retrieve it, but too late to save his mother.
As a young man, Arthur was sent to Rome, and was raised by his guardian, the teacher Pelagius. Pelagius' ideas on equality and free thinking were massively influential on young Arthur, and the teenager gladly followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Roman army. He was posted to Britain as his father had been, and eventually put in charge of a small group of conscripted "knights," men torn from their homeland by an ancient pact between their forefathers and Marcus Aurelius.
Arthur's knights were from Sarmatia, or modern day Iraq, Iran and Russia.
Arthur began his group with forty men, and formed what he believed to be the best and noblest group of soldiers the Roman Empire could ever hope for. Despite the fact his knights were fighting a war not their own, they gradually began to trust and honor him. He in turn loved, trusted and relied on them for almost everything.
His goals were twofold. One, to protect the land for the Empire. And two, to see his men home after their 15 year term of service was up.
Arthur is a devout Christian, but respects his knights and does not try to force his faith on them. They in turn regard his praying and his "god" as strange, but leave him to it.
Arthur's first knight and closest friend is Lancelot Ap Ban. The two men argue, fight, ride, laugh, eat, live and love together. They are partners in everything - and some believe them to be more than just friends. Arthur will expound on that himself.
Now, with five years left on their terms, Arthur's band of knights has dwindled to ten men. They are his everything and his reason for getting out of bed each day. He wars with himself and his beliefs and constantly questions the way the Empire sees his conscripts as fodder for the machine that is war.
Arthur is a conundrum; a great man, a future leader, a Christian, an idealist, and according to Lancelot, an idiot of the highest caliber. He is self loathing and flaggelates too often. He is young and still believes in the inherent good in men, and hasn't yet been crushed by the world.
He is, and will be, the perfect warlord.
Strengths: Arthur is an expert swordsman, and carries his father's ancestral blade, Excalibur, with him wherever he goes. He is also strong and can read a man before he lets loose his own blow. He is tall and broad, and therefore is hard to knock down.
He is decent with a bow and loves horses and riding. He is addicted to reading and study and can often be found arguing with Lancelot over some trivial passage from the Bible - until Lancelot throws up his hands and walks away.
Arthur is a master at strategizing and one can be almost guaranteed to win whatever battle he plans.
He believes fully in the power of God and trusts that His will shall be done, no matter what Arthur wants or does not want.
He loves his knights; he is almost innocent in the ways of evil men, but is not stupid. He knows there is bad mojo out there, and does what he can to stop it.
Weaknesses: Arthur is an idealist - which Lancelot believes will be the man's undoing. He trusts too easily, and does not watch his own back often enough. He is prone to falling in with people he believes will help him, only to be crushed when they end up using him and his men for their own ends. He is too open and easy to read.
He is a terrible singer and has a juvenile sense of humor - again according to Lancelot. He doesn't replace his clothing until holes have appeared in the elbows, and he has an awful habit of biting his nails when thinking.
